The Rise of the Microwedding

It’s no secret that everything in the world drastically changed last spring, and the wedding industry was no exception. Wedding professionals immediately began helping their couples adjust their original, large weddings into safer, smaller, and equally as beautiful gatherings. Enter the microwedding, the newest wedding style that will stay long after everything returns to normal.

As couples are opting to celebrate their love through more intimate affairs these days, microweddings have popped up as the perfect middle ground. They still feature the timeless traditions and elements of a typical wedding, but are much more personal, with guest lists including up to 50 of the couple’s closest acquaintances. Sure, there may be some pushback from families that want a larger guest list or friends who wish to be there, but at the end of the day, the pros far outweigh the cons.

With a smaller guest list, there is a world of possibilities for other details of the day. You can choose a unique venue without worrying about the size (this article gives some great location ideas) and focus more on your budget. Couples are able to splurge on what’s meaningful to them, whether that’s bringing in high quality food and drink from their favorite restaurant or adding stunning florals to unexpected places. If your guest list is even fewer people, you can create a special touch for each attendee—like a handwritten note at their place, or playing their favorite song. There’s much more freedom and just as much fun.

Above all, you’ll still want to have a photographer there to document it all. Regardless of the size of the wedding, the details throughout the day—like what you’re wearing, your first look, and your walk down the aisle—will still be moments you’ll want to hold onto. The photographer will be able to craft a shot list that isn’t packed full of formals, and instead can truly capture the essence of the day.

With many microweddings under my belt, I can say it’s so encouraging to see them play out perfectly for the couple! I’m all for this trend sticking around.
